The January transfer market is always a period of intense speculation and possible big-money transfers. Several prominent players are being connected to moves out of their current teams. We examine some of the top figures who might be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to reach the AFCON, this has left the player in contention, reports suggest a significant move is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a £65 million release clause active for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest developments suggest Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to other targets, potentially opening the door for clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late bid.

M. Guéhi

This English defender has excel for Palace this season a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. With his deal set to run out in the summer, January is the club's last opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. The Portuguese playmaker could be poised for a return to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still just twenty-eight, while his agreement expiring in the summer, he represents a possible bargain. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the player. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spain that he would be willing to accept a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran Germany shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barça under the manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a January exit seems increasingly probable. Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading hopes of being in the national squad. Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish attacker is in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his existing deal nearing its end, a host of Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is widely expected to complete a big-money move this month. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
